Google Chrome - Open Source Browser

There has been a lot written in the last day about Google Chrome. While I’m not terribly excited, it would be wrong of me to not mention it here on an open source blog. Google Chrome is an open source browser from the people at Google. Why aren’t I jumping up and down with others? Well, right now you can only see Google Chrome on Windows!! When I have an open source browser (Firefox) that works on my Mac, and works really well, why would I be excited about a new browser that I can’t even test?

My thoughts exactly (except I’m running Linux instead of Mac).

Yeah, some of the reported features are great - huge increases in speed they say BUT it takes all its connection settings from windows which is causing headaches for people operating in corporate environments with proxies that are locked down (we had the same problem with Safari for win). Mozilla and Opera allow you to set alternative proxy settings. This IS a beta though so maybe they’ll do something about this ‘feature’.

I’ll have to have it installed for testing purposes but I’ll be sticking with FireFox for the extensions.
